2011 Gathering of the Vibes

Consequence of Sound has the following article announcing this show:

Jane’s Addiction, Furthur, Elvis Costello head Gathering of the Vibes 2011
By Alex Young on March 14th, 2011 in Festival

I think someone on my Facebook news feed summed it up best: here’s the most surprising festival lineup of 2011. The jam-centric Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival will return for its 16th incarnation July 21-24 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT, and it will bring with it jamheads Furthur, the legendary Elvis Costello (who will be backed by the Imposters), and… Jane’s Addiction. Really, really.

The rest of the lineup is a bit more by the book: moe., Levon Helm Band, John Butler Trio, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Dark Star Orchestra, and Dr. John and the Lower 911 are among the other confirmed notables, while acts like The New Mastersounds and Big Gigantic will hold down the late night stage.

A second round of 2011 acts will be made within the next 2 weeks, and you can keep track of all the latest updates at our GOTV Festival Outlook page.

Advanced camping and VIP passes are priced at $205.00 and $420.00, respectively, and are now available via the festival’s website.

Forthcoming Perry Farrell Solo Album?

According to the following article on Joachim Garraud’s website, Perry Farrell will be releasing his second solo album in the near future.  Garraud is a French DJ and producer.

Perry Farrell is an icon in USA. Musician, actor and director, he is the founder of alternative rock bands as Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros. He is also the creator of the Lollapalooza festival.

Not easy for a rock star to shift towards a world more electro. The story began with a meeting between Joachim and Perry in Los Angeles, an essay in a studio resulted successful, and then was born a first song made of the mixture of these two universes. A second song quickly saw the light of day and at the end they were eleven songs to make an album half way between PetShop Boys, Curiosity Killed the Cat, OMD.

The album will be released in the United States in the coming months and the first live of Perry Farrell with the songs produced by Joachim, will take place at Santiago de Chile during the Lolapalooza festival, the 2nd of April.

The first previews presented on this album, will be available here soon.

Jane’s Addiction to Honor Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan

Jane’s Addiction will be one of several bands performing at this year’s MusiCares event.  This year’s honoree is Depeche Mode front man Dave Gahan.  From Spinner.com:

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan to be Honored by Jane’s Addiction for MusiCares
Posted on Mar 7th 2011 6:59PM by Steve Baltin

Grammy Week 2011 has come and gone, but the Recording Academy’s MusiCares — the charitable wing of the organization dedicated to helping musicians in need — is a year-round endeavor. And it takes center stage on May 6 in Los Angeles when Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan (pictured) and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman follow in the footsteps of past honorees like Chris Cornell, Slash, Metallica’s James Hetfield and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis in being honored for their sobriety and work for musicians.

Founded in 1989, MusiCares started as a source of aid for musicians seeking recovery from their substance abuse problems, but has expanded in recent years to become more of a general aid to musicians in distress. Because of its role in helping artists, it has continually attracted some of music’s biggest names — including Tom Waits, Metallica, Alice in Chains and more — to perform at the annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert.

This year is no exception as the night’s entertainment — which will feature Gahan being presented the Stevie Ray Vaughan award and performing with Victor Indrizzo — will be highlighted by performances from Jane’s Addiction, Ozomatli and Paramore (acoustic).

“The MusiCares MAP Fund is an unbelievably important and courageous organization,” said Gahan in a release. “They continue to make a momentous commitment to the music community, and I am proud to support their ongoing work in raising awareness and funds.”

It is indeed a great cause and often offers some unique musical moments, particularly when honorees are feted musically by other performers. So might we see a bit of Jane’s Addiction rocking ‘Blasphemous Rumors,’ bringing together two continents of alternative music history? We can only hope.

General admission tickets will be available via Ticketmaster outlets starting March 11.

Additionally, it sounds like Martyn LeNoble will also be appearing and performing according to what he posted on Facebook:

My dear friend Dave Gahan will receive the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for being awesome and I will have the honor of playing some songs with him (and Victor Indrizzo and Vincent Jones)
