Discography Guidelines

The following are guidelines and information regarding how titles are listed in the discography. These rules will apply unless it inherently makes sense to violate them.

General:

Stamped promos are not listed. These promos are identical to the commercial release but have a "promotional use only" stamp on the cover. The only time a stamped promo will be listed is if it is actually different than the commercial release.

If a band has its own discography, its content will not be included in the band members' discographies. Thus, you will not see Jane's Addiction releases in Perry Farrell's discography.

Bands that do not have their own entry will be included in the artist(s) individual discography, this includes solo album by other artists where a person was a member of the artist's supporting band.

The only titles included in the Red Hot Chili Peppers' discography are titles that include the work of Dave Navarro.

The same title may appear in multiple discographies if it relates to multiple bands or artists.

Categories:

Albums - these are full length albums or EPs put out by a band or artist.

Singles - these are singles put out by a band or artist.

Promos - these are any non-commercial items used to promote a band or artist. These do not have to be musical in nature.

Compilations - these are any release that is not artist specific where music from a band or artist is used. Compilations can be audio, video or both. These are generally, but not necessarily, commercial releases.

Soundtracks - these are motion picture soundtracks where music from a band or artist is used. These are generally, but not necessarily, commercial releases.

Guest Appearances - these are artist specific releases where a band or artist is featured. Artist specific mix albums are considered guest appearances. These are generally, but not necessarily, commercial releases.

Videos & Movies - these are commercial video based titles put out by a band or artist. Movies that lack soundtracks and include music otherwise not available may be included.

Books - these are text titles about or feature a band or artist.

Film Scores - these are motion picture film scores created by an artist. These may or may not be commercially available.

Other - these are items that are related to a band or artist but do not fit into any other category.

Multiple Listings:

Discography entries are listed by title and not by medium. There are not individual listings for each medium, although ID numbers for each are provided when available.

Minor variations in mediums (ex: multiple colored vinyl releases) will generally not get their own entry, however all information about each variation will be provided when available.

The following rules will apply in terms of multiple listings of the same title:

If the content of a title is significantly different, an additional listing will be created. (ex: extra tracks on imports).

If a different record company re-releases a title, or a significant amount of time has passed between releases, an additional listing will be created.
