Porno For Pyros Quietly Hit The Road
Changing their plans, as usual.
Addicted To Noise staff writer Gil Kaufman reports:

Now that the "Jane's Reunion" talk has died down a bit, Porno for Pyros are quietly sneaking back onto the road for a series of performances starting next Wednesday (February 26).

The band, who scuttled plans earlier this month for a series of shows with their pals in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, bassist Flea and ex-Jane's guitarist Dave Navarro (after the reunion talk was blown way out of proportion), will play the David Letterman show on Grammy night (Feb. 26), with the Chili Peppers duo in tow.

The next night (Feb. 27), the pair will also join them for a performance of "Hard Charger" outside Madison Square Garden before the premiere of the Howard Stern movie Private Parts . The other pre-movie performance will come from Stern himself, who will be joined by Rob Zombie on the song "The Great American Nightmare."

The Porno for Pyros song, which, if you haven't heard it yet, is very reminiscent of the classic Jane's Addiction sound and one of the coolest songs on the soundtrack, is the first single from the collection, which also features a surprisingly tight Ozzy Osbourne/Type O Negative cover of Status Quo's "Pictures of Matchstick Men," a great song from Flea, Dave Navarro and Chad Smith of the Peppers with LL Cool J called "I Make My Own Rules" and a cover of the Kinks' "Tired of Waiting for You" by Green Day.

The band, with Flea, but not Navarro, will then play a show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York on Friday (Feb. 28), and another on Saturday (March 1) at the Capitol Ballroom in Washington, D.C. A source at Porno's management told ATN that the band will do "sporadic touring" over the next few months, with "a week or two here and there," since they haven't yet started work on their next album.

Ironically, when Porno's dates were canceled in January (including a planned benefit to raise money for the college fund for the daughter of guitarist Peter DiStefano, who underwent chemotherapy treatment for cancer last fall) the official word was that it was to allow them to concentrate on recording a new album. As of yesterday, our management source said the band want to take some time off after these shows "to travel and wind down," and to allow leader Perry Farrell to work on Lollapalooza and his new on-line record label, Insect World.

There is also a possibility that a Porno's tune will show up on the soundtrack to the next Batman movie, whose title track is reportedly being penned by the Smashing Pumpkins.

Porno For Pyros Trip Out In NYC
Give this man a bottle of red wine.
Addicted To Noise Director of Ad Sales and Perry Farrell worshipper David Hyman reports:

Last night's (Friday, February 28) Pornos for Pyro show at the Roseland in New York was an alterna-extravaganza. The crowd was exposed to the lethal combination of Porno's standard posse with Perry Farrell's old-time partner-in-crime, Dave Navarro, with the added bonus of Chili Pepper Flea on bass. And Porno's guitarist Peter DiStefano (who has apparently recovered from his bout with cancer) was back in action, trading awesome solos with Navarro.

Farrell seemed to be in excellent mental and physical condition evident by his over buoyant, drunken psychedelic sailor dancing style (bottle in hand). Dressed in his now standard gypsy wardrobe, he offered numerous dedications to everyone from Howard Stern to DiStefano.

I don't think it's really necessary to tell you that these guys can take rock 'n' roll to an extraterrestrial level. But in case you're in doubt, they can and they did.

The crowd was treated to the standard Pyros barn-blazers including "Pets," as well as classics from Jane's Addiction including an inspired "Mountain Song" and the set closer, "I Would For You" Navarro on acoustic guitar.

Naturally, they delivered a highly charged "Hard Charger," the new single off the Private Parts soundtrack.

Unfortunately, just as the hour long performance really stared to accelerate to another level--it was over.

Oh well, what they delivered was more than good enough.
