NOT FOR THE TAME

Jane's Addiction is one of those bands your mother warned you about - obnoxious, abrasive, out to corrupt your children. And doing a fine job of it, as should be evidenced at a packed Boathouse tonight.

Really, this young, L.A. proto-punk band isn't that dangerous when you get down to the music. Imagine a listenable mix of post- psychedelic cosmic noise, heavy-metalish guitars and lead singer Perry Farrell's anthemic lyrics about breaking the rules.

Even though the group's rough-hewn mix hasn't gotten radio play, it is considered the next big thing on the rock circuit. With one album out, the group has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine and won a nomination from the hoity-toity National Academy of Recording Artists for the best hard-rock performance.

Little Caesar opens the show at 9 tonight. The Boathouse is at 119 Bessie's Place, Norfolk. Tickets $4.99 at the door.
