It's been a long time since such a collection of punks, misfits and miscreants gathered together to worship such an influential act. Packing the Air Canada Centre to the rafters, few complained about a hefty ticket price when it came to seeing Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and some dude with a bass crank out some of the devoutly worshipped Jane's catalogue.

Having missed the first two acts entirely due to shitty weather and a cab driver who mistakenly believed himself to be the Bullit-era Steve McQueen, one must rely on the surrounding patrons for their wise viewpoints. Going by this, Montreal's Dears were "cute" and "kinda cool for a small band," where Live were largely dismissed as "boring, dude" and "an odd billing." Still, looking at their stage set as it was torn down, the atmosphere of a living room seemed rather appealing, what with the couches, lamps and a television. Having only heard what seemed to be an echo-y version of "Lightning Crashes," one can surmise that the band was tight, clear and ignored.

Casually making their way onto the stage, Jane's Addiction made sure that their entire hour plus set was filled with classic songs, visual insanity and an upbeat vibe. While the days of Farrell running around in a constant state of vogue are gone, their show was all about the vibe, baby. Coming out in a massive parachute/gown, filled with dancers, Farrell was raised and lowered to the amusement of the audience. The six or seven dancers were a regular feature of the show, taunting the audience with strip-club moves, skimpy costumes and plenty of props including a teeter-totter, scaffolding and some kind of spinning wheel with arm straps straight out of a dominatrix house. Mingling occasionally with the band, they were the perfect accent while the band played perfect renditions of their songs.

Most impressive however, was the band's attempt to break down the us-them barrier that a massive stage instantly creates. Slipping off the stage to some of Farrell's recent electronica, it seemed as if the band were gone for good until at the last moment, they popped up at the very back of the venue on a tiny acoustic stage. Those with shitty seats were now front and centre to the ensuing subtle renditions of "Jane Says" and "Classic Girl," while dancers found their way to small stages engulfed by the floor-level audience.

Unfortunately, the band also thought this the perfect time to introduce some solo material, much to the chagrin of, well, everyone. Those once standing on chairs for a better view quickly thrust themselves onto their butts as Navarro (quite excellently) belted out an acoustic tune of his own. Moments later, the group were back on the mainstage for a few numbers before slipping into a rhythm-heavy solo Farrell composition.

All in all, Jane's Addiction put on a stellar show, recreating almost every classic tune from Nothing's Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual except for the sad exclusion of "Been Caught Stealing." Still, this is a moot point when compared to impeccable sound, killer visuals and ecstatic fans.
