Listen Up! H.E.A.R. and Top DJs Give a Shout-Out to Club-Goers; Bay Area Hearing-Loss Awareness Organization Hosts a Superstar DJ Concert to Benefit Legal Defense Fund
DATELINE: SAN FRANCISCO

Nov. 4, 1999--Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers (H.E.A.R.) is staging a benefit concert on Nov. 20 to raise money for its educational outreach programs.

Recent legal costs for a continuing trademark lawsuit being brought against the non-profit organization over the rights to H.E.A.R.'s award-winning web site, www.hearnet.com, are significant and increasing, and the DJs and artists appearing have all volunteered their time and talent to help.

H.E.A.R. co-founder and Executive Director Kathy Peck and Step Into Unity Productions are bringing together a myriad of performers and DJs for the evening, featuring DJ Perry Farrell (AKA "Peretz"), former front man of Jane's Addiction.

Since 1988, H.E.A.R. has been providing information on hearing loss, tinnitus and hearing protection to musicians and music fans.

"Hosting this show is a great way to spread the message to clubbers, who should know that loud music at clubs and raves can prevent them from enjoying music later in their lives," said Peck. "I'm excited about the talented group of DJs who will be spinning at the show, including, DJ Polywog and DJ Platypus."

Tickets for this 21-and-older benefit are available for $ 20 on Ticketweb (www.ticketweb.com) and will take place in the Turn of the Century Grand Ballroom at the International Center, 50 Oak Street, San Francisco. Doors open at 7 p.m. For more information about attendance or sponsorship, contact Kathy Peck at H.E.A.R.: 415/431-3277 or hear@hearnet.com.

After the show, visit the H.E.A.R. website at www.hearnet.com for the SonicNet and MTV interactive archived webcast.

Friday, Nov. 19, the day before the concert, there will be an all-ages in-store performance with several of the benefit's DJs spinning at Amoeba Music, located at 1855 Haight Street in San Francisco. Admission is free and the performance starts at 6 p.m.

H.E.A.R. is a non-profit organization 501 (c) (3) serving the community since 1988, founded by a donation from Pete Townshend of the Who. H.E.A.R. reaches out to musicians and music fans, providing education and medical information on the effects of excessive noise so everyone can enjoy the music for a long, long time.
