Social Distortion to headline benefit for Tovar Author: Cary Darling
The Orange County Register
Though Gary Tovar moved his Goldenvoice concert promotion company from Huntington Beach to the wilds of Hollywood a couple of years ago, he still commands respect from Orange County notables such as Social Distortion. The band headlines a Hollywood Palladium benefit on Sunday for Tovar, who pleaded guilty to four federal criminal counts involving marijuana trafficking last November.
Also playing on the show to raise money for Tovar's legal fees are Porno for Pyros, Thelonious Monster, the Meat Puppets, Tender Fury, firehose and Bug Lamp. Goldenvoice was responsible for booking many visiting and local alternative bands in the punk and post-punk eras that more mainstream promoters wouldn't touch. Tickets for the show are $20 and available through Ticketmaster outlets at 740-2000.
