City police and armed federal agents raided Miami's Bayfront Amphitheater on Tuesday and seized large stocks of counterfeit money. The fake bills were the property of Porno For Pyros, the band scheduled to play there that evening.
The band was held in police custody for several hours, while U.S. Treasury officers counted the phony cash.
Singer Perry Farrell throws the fake $100 bills into the crowd during the band's shows. Police were called in after one proud recipient tried to use it to buy food at a Tampa Denny's. It was accepted as the real thing, even though the bill featured Farrell's face on both sides.
No charges were filed, and after playing that evening the band continued its U.S. tour. But Farrell has been reduced to throwing real dollar bills into the crowd.
