Trust No One

Trust No One is the solo debut from Dave Navarro.  This album was final released after several delays on June 19, 2001 by Capitol Records. This album is a personal and dark look into Dave’s life.

Trust No One started out as a side project with the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s drummer Chad Smith called Spread, back when Dave was still with the Chili Peppers.  Chad eventually left the project, which was also forced to change its name due to a conflict with another band already using the Spread moniker.  Between the time when the Spread demos were recorded, and this album was released, Dave reworked and rerecorded much of this album, although many elements of the original demos are still present.

This album includes a cover of the Velvet Underground’s Venus in Furs.

Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros’ drummer Stephen Perkins performs on the track Not For Nothing.

Alternate Versions:

This album was released on cassette, CD and on a limited edition double 10″ vinyl set.

The Japanese import versions of this album includes the Spread demo tracks The Bed, a cover of the Lou Reed song, and Somebody Else.  The bonus tracks are not listed on the album artwork, but are listed on the lyric sheet and present on the disc.

There are several promotional versions of this album.  The first is a promo of the full album that comes with standard Capitol Records promotional artwork.  The second is an advance CD that uses different artwork than the commercial release.  The advance CD cover is a picture of Dave Navarro eating cereal.  He has a spoon right up on his mouth with milk dripping down his chin.  The image is brown-red and black with the milk highlighted in white.

A three-track sampler was also released on both CD and cassette.  The CD version uses the same picture found on the advance CD as the artwork on the disc itself.

A five track Selections from Trust No One promo also exists.  It comes in standard Capitol Records promotional packaging.

Finally, there is a interview promo disc for this album, which contains the entire album plus an interview with Dave spread over three tracks.  The 30 minute interview was conducted on April 6, 2001 in Los Angeles, CA.  An acetate CDR version of this promo also exists.
