‘Great Escape Artist’ due September 26

According to NME, Jane’s Addiction’s new album ‘The Great Escape Artist’ is set to be released on September 26.  Of course the article incorrectly names Chris Chaney as the band’s drummer.  Oops.  Here is the article:

LA veterans are channelling Muse and Radiohead on new collection

Jane’s Addiction have confirmed details of their new album ‘The Great Escape Artist’.

Due for release on September 26, the album is the follow-up to ‘Strays’, which was released in 2003, the last time the band reformed.

Alongside founders Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro, plus drummer Chris Chaney, the album features TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek – pictured – on bass.

Of the title, Farrell said: “I love being able to escape my past, even though my past was great. I just love the future even more,” adding of the album, “it’s a strange mixture of that post-punk goth darkness that Jane’s had, with what’s going on today with groups like Muse and Radiohead. As much as I want to appease fans and make old Jane’s fans love me, I just can’t help myself from moving forward.”

Meanwhile, the band have premiered the video for the first single ‘End To The Lies’, which was released as a free download earlier this year. It was directed by Alexander Bulkley of ShadowMachine, the studio behind the stop-motion animation comedy series Robot Chicken.

Navarro said of the video: “I’m really happy to work on this video for ‘End To The Lies’ with Alex. He clearly gets what Jane’s Addiction is about and the roots of where we came from.

“We came up in a very artistic community – this video encompasses that through merging LA streets and street artists with sexuality and the beauty of music. There is no better way to define what this band has always been about.”

Jane’s Addiction Perform at Tim Burton Exhibition

From Love it Loud:

NEWS – Jane’s Addiction Perform at Tim Burton Exhibition
Published on May 29, 2011 by Christian Sellers

Although unique style has been replaced by something more stale and mainstream, cult filmmaker Tim Burton is still a highly respected artist, whose classic movies have included Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

An exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art has begun today that will run until – rather appropriately – Halloween, and includes hundreds of photgraphs, paintings drawings, puppets, costumes and more from his work over the last thirty years.

To celebrate the event, Jane’s Addiction performed a set in the courtyard of the museum. “Really had a fabulous time at The Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA. If you get a chance, you really must go,” said guitarist Dave Navarro on his Twitter page, having previously stated that he was ‘honored’ to perform.

Frontman Perry Farrell even dressed for the occasion, prompting Navarro to add, “I always knew that @perryfarrell was mad as a hatter.” Celebrity fans also praised the performance, with guitar legend Slash stating, “Just got back from an amazing Tim Burton art exhibit at LACMA. & Jane’s Addiction played a set in the courtyard. Pretty cool.”

Over the course of their 25-plus year career, Jane’s Addiction merged alternative and rock like no one before, becoming the first alternative rock band and creating a new sound and attitude in the process. Writing the rulebook for alternative music and culture through their combination of genre-defying classic songs and trademark cinematic live experience, Jane’s Addiction has sold over seven million records in the U.S. alone, garnering Grammy nominations and spearheading the movement of modern American festival culture by launching and headlining Lollapalooza.

2011 marks another momentous year for Jane’s Addiction, with the band set to tour the world and release a new album, The Great Escape Artist (Capitol) produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol) with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek brought on as part of the creative team.
