Rolling Stone: Inside Perry Farrell’s Wild Vegas EDM Musical: Sex, Drugs and War

Rolling Stone has an article about Perry’s new EDM project.  Of particular note for Jane’s Addiction fans is the final paragraph:

One aspect is clear, though: Thanks to Kind Heaven, no one should expect to hear from Jane’s Addiction for some time. “This is a pretty massive undertaking,” Farrell says, “so Jane’s Addiction is going to take a hiatus. It’ll be a couple of years before you see Jane’s again.”

Not easy for a rock star to shift towards a world more electro. The story began with a meeting between Joachim and Perry in Los Angeles, an essay in a studio resulted successful, and then was born a first song made of the mixture of these two universes. A second song quickly saw the light of day and at the end they were eleven songs to make an album half way between PetShop Boys, Curiosity Killed the Cat, OMD.

The album will be released in the United States in the coming months and the first live of Perry Farrell with the songs produced by Joachim, will take place at Santiago de Chile during the Lolapalooza festival, the 2nd of April.

The first previews presented on this album, will be available here soon.

Jane’s Addiction to Honor Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan

Jane’s Addiction will be one of several bands performing at this year’s MusiCares event.  This year’s honoree is Depeche Mode front man Dave Gahan.  From Spinner.com:

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan to be Honored by Jane’s Addiction for MusiCares

Grammy Week 2011 has come and gone, but the Recording Academy’s MusiCares — the charitable wing of the organization dedicated to helping musicians in need — is a year-round endeavor. And it takes center stage on May 6 in Los Angeles when Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan (pictured) and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman follow in the footsteps of past honorees like Chris Cornell, Slash, Metallica’s James Hetfield and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis in being honored for their sobriety and work for musicians.

Founded in 1989, MusiCares started as a source of aid for musicians seeking recovery from their substance abuse problems, but has expanded in recent years to become more of a general aid to musicians in distress. Because of its role in helping artists, it has continually attracted some of music’s biggest names — including Tom Waits, Metallica, Alice in Chains and more — to perform at the annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert. zolpidem pice
This year is no exception as the night’s entertainment — which will feature Gahan being presented the Stevie Ray Vaughan award and performing with Victor Indrizzo — will be highlighted by performances from Jane’s Addiction, Ozomatli and Paramore (acoustic).

“The MusiCares MAP Fund is an unbelievably important and courageous organization,” said Gahan in a release. “They continue to make a momentous commitment to the music community, and I am proud to support their ongoing work in raising awareness and funds.”

It is indeed a great cause and often offers some unique musical moments, particularly when honorees are feted musically by other performers. So might we see a bit of Jane’s Addiction rocking ‘Blasphemous Rumors,’ bringing together two continents of alternative music history? We can only hope. xanax usa

General admission tickets will be available via Ticketmaster outlets starting March 11.

Additionally, it sounds like Martyn LeNoble will also be appearing and performing according to what he posted on Facebook:

My dear friend Dave Gahan will receive the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for being awesome and I will have the honor of playing some songs with him (and Victor Indrizzo and Vincent Jones)

NME: Dave Sitek joins Jane’s Addiction for new album

NME is reporting that Dave Sitek is playing bass on Jane’s Addiction’s upcoming new album:

Dave Sitek joins Jane’s Addiction for new album
TV On The Radio man replaces Duff McKagan on four-string duties

January 4, 2011

TV On The Radio mainman and producer Dave Sitek is to help write and play bass on ‘s new album.

Sitek replaces former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, the band confirmed to Spinner. McKagan had been due to play on the follow up to 2003’s ‘Strays’. He left during the early stages of recording, citing “creative differences”.

It seems unlikely that Sitek will tour with the band, however. When Jane’s Addiction played a New Year’s Eve show in Aspen, Colorado, Chris Chaney, a former full-time member of the band, played bass.

Aside from the revolving doors of potential bass players, little is known about the forthcoming Jane’s Addiction album. The only comment about the record from frontman Perry Farrell has been to say that he and his bandmates are “fully immersed in the process of making modern music. It has been a great experience thus far, and the results have so much potential”.

Muse and Glasvegas producer Rich Costey has been confirmed to produce the album.

Sitek has produced albums for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars and most recently Holly Miranda. He is also a founding member of TV On The Radio, and released his own solo album under the Maximum Balloon name last September.

Jane’s Addiction and Guns N’ Roses as Rivals?

Today in his blog in the Seattle Weekly,  Duff McKagan briefly talks about the supposed Jane’s Addiction / Guns N’ Roses rivalry, and a few songs from Jane’s back catalog.  The two band’s history is a long one, coming up at the same time in different parts of the L.A. club scene.  Dave Navarro even recently talked about being asked to join GNR back in late 1991, and then worked with the band for their song Oh My God! Duff’s article is a short but sweet read and you can check it out at the above link or after the jump.

MusicRadar Interview with Stephen Perkins

Stephen Perkins was interviewed by MusicRadar, where he discussed Eric Avery leaving Jane’s Addiction again, Duff McKagan joining to play bass and the band’s future.  Here is a quote about Eric Avery leaving

“Yeah. I can’t say we were surprised – it takes a lot to surprise us anymore. But now Duff has come into our lives and it’s wonderful. Of course, we’ve known Duff for quite a while, even going back to his GN’R days. We never viewed Guns N’ Roses as competition or anything. Back in the day, Jane’s was always hanging out with the Chili Peppers and Fishbone and bands like that, whereas GN’R were a bit more on the Sunset Strip.”

Even though you weren’t “surprised” at Eric’s decision to leave, when did you get the feeling that things weren’t right with him and the band?

“You know, you have to go back to the beginning, to ’84 and ’85. We were four people who came together, we were all very different, we loved different types of music. Nothing about us fit. We didn’t dress the same, our record collections couldn’t be more different…These are things that can bring people together in very beautiful ways when the situation is lubricated properly; on the other hand, these are the same things that can create friction.
