Jane’s Addiction show in Boston ends abruptly

The Jane’s Addiction show last night in Boston, MA ended abruptly at the end of Ocean Size, after Perry Farrell appeared to instigate a fight with Dave Navarro, with guitar tech Dan Cleary quickly jumping in between the two and then Eric Avery. Steve Perkins, also made his way out behind his kit to see what was going on. Coincidentally, September 13 was Steve’s 57th birthday.

Spin and NME both have articles on the scuffle, including different audience shot video clips. Additional clips can be found on YouTube and social media.

Update 11a EDT: Rolling Stone has an article, and NME has a second article about the situation.

The documentary was done with the cooperation of Perry Farrell and festival organizers.

Eric Avery in the studio with Jane’s Addiction!

This photo, originally posted by Etty Lau Farrell on Instagram, and later shared by Eric Avery on IG and Facebook, shows Eric, Perry and Steve Perkins in the studio together. This would be the first time Perry and Eric have worked on new music together since their ill-fated attempt after the 2009 NIN/JA tour.

This comes literally days after Perry revealed that he’s been in the studio with Peter DiStefano, working on new music for Porno For Pyros.

Perry Farrell — the frontman for Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros and Satellite Party — has announced Perry Farrell: The Glitz; The Glamour, a nine-vinyl box set that will take a retrospective look at Farrell’s prolific 35-year-long career.

The box set’s 68 tracks cover rarities and early recordings of Farrell’s, including “Ho Ka Hey,” a song from his first band Psi Com that was originally released in 1985 as part of a five-track EP. Taking inspiration from Joy Division and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Farrell recorded the post-punk tune just prior to the formation of Jane’s Addiction; it showcases Farrell’s early involvement in the alternative rock scene.

In addition to the vinyl recordings, the box set will include a Blu-ray featuring 12 uncompressed Dolby Atmos mixes from Kind Heaven and three brand-new previously unreleased Atmos mixes, a photographic memoirs hardcover book, a bandana and two exclusive Zoltar prints. The box set will also be available as a limited streamable download, with preorders beginning August 7th.

Other highlights include an unearthed recording of the Doors’ Jim Morrison, written and recorded with Starcrawler, and 11 commissioned remixes from and collaborations with Maceo Plex, Groove Armada, UNKLE, Solomun, Booka Shade, Richard Norris, Francois K and the Avalanches.

Rolling Stone: Inside Perry Farrell’s Wild Vegas EDM Musical: Sex, Drugs and War

Rolling Stone has an article about Perry’s new EDM project.  Of particular note for Jane’s Addiction fans is the final paragraph:

One aspect is clear, though: Thanks to Kind Heaven, no one should expect to hear from Jane’s Addiction for some time. “This is a pretty massive undertaking,” Farrell says, “so Jane’s Addiction is going to take a hiatus. It’ll be a couple of years before you see Jane’s again.”
