Jane’s Addiction forced to cancel Reading and Leeds performances

Due to swelling in Perry Farrell’s vocal chords, Jane’s Addiction were forced to cancel their performances at last night’s Reading Festival and tonight’s Leeds Festival.  The band were scheduled to headline the NME / BBC Radio 1 stage.  No decision has been made on Tuesday’s show at KOKO.  Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for Perry.

The following was posted to Twitter this morning by Dave Navarro:

This morning in London his doctor determined that Perry Farrell’s vocal condition remains unchanged from last night. Again Jane’s Addiction wishes to convey their sincere apologies to the fans who had been looking forward to their scheduled performances at Reading and Leeds.

Jane’s September 4th Show Moving Indoors

According to the Edmonton Journal, the September 4th Sonic Boom festival will now be taking place at the Edmonton Expo Centre due to weather concerns.

Sonic Boom will rock out indoors due to weather worries
By Sandra Sperounes, Edmonton Journal August 23, 2011

Sonic Boom is heading indoors – partly due to “Edmonton’s volatile summer weather patterns,” according to organizers.

The mainstage of the Sept. 4 modern rock festival, starring Jane’s Addiction, Metric and Cee Lo Green, is moving from the parking lot of Northlands to the Expo Centre.

A spokesperson for the festival’s promoter, Union Events, says ticket sales are “all right” but have been affected by the city’s weather.

“The move comes after careful consideration of fan feedback, and the effects of Edmonton’s volatile summer weather patterns taking its toll on several major outdoor events, including Sonic Boom itself,” reads a statement from Union Events.

Capital Ex, in particular, was hit hard by July’s rainy weather – with 35,000 fewer people attending than in 2010.

Tickets to Sonic Boom range from $79.50 to $199.50 plus service charges at Ticketmaster. Up ‘n’ coming rock acts such as The Joy Formidable, Hollerado and Manchester Orchestra are also on the bill.

Two indoor VIP areas will be provided, including a side-stage deck, and all ticketholders will have access to an outdoor lounge.

Last year’s festival, featuring Rise Against, Weezer, and City and Colour, attracted almost 15,000 fans.

One of the first ladies of rock, Joan Jett, is bringing her Blackhearts to River Cree Resort and Casino.

The 52-year-old purveyor of Bad Reputation, I Love Rock and Roll and I Hate Myself For Loving You will perform Saturday, Oct. 29. Tickets are $59.50 plus service charges at rivercreetickets.com.

Who knew Smash Mouth was still around?

The ’90s pop-rock stars, who enjoyed a brief career revival with their cover of I’m a Believer for the first Shrek film, will play Saturday, Oct. 1, at River Cree. Tickets are $39.50 plus service charges at rivercreetickets.com.

Lollapalooza returning to Chile, expanding to Brazil in 2012 (Updated)

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Lollapalooza festival, kicking off today at Grant Park in Chicago, IL, festival organizers are set to announce that Lollapalooza is returning to South America in 2012.  Lollapalooza will return to Chile for a two-day festival at Equestrian Club of Santiago on March 31 and April 1, 2012, and then head up to Brazil for the inaugural Lollapalooza Brasil festival the following week from April 7-8, 2012 at the Jockey Club in São Paolo.  No lineups have been announced so far, but I would expect a blend of North and South American artists, similar to what was done with Lollapalooza Chile last year.

Update:  The regular Lollapalooza festival will return to Grant Park in Chicago, IL from August 3-5, 2012.
