Jane’s Addiction, Weezer to Play Edge Fest 21

By GREG JANDA
Updated 5:45 PM CST, Fri, Feb 25, 2011

KDGE 102.1-FM just announced the lineup for their twenty-first Edge Fest including headliners Jane’s Addiction and Weezer.

Fourteen bands were announced to play the April 30 festival at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. Social Disortion, Seether, Neon Trees, A Day to Remember, Airborne Toxic Event, Young the Giant, Middle Class Rut, and Electric Touch will join the two headliners on the main stage while the second stage will host Flogging Molly, Dirty Heads, New Politics, AWOL Nation and others to be determined later.

A new addition this year are floor seats on the pitch of Pizza Hut Park and a smaller pit area than traditionally set up. We like the change, but we’re super lazy anyway and almost always pick seating when possible.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2011. Prices coming soon.

Jane’s Fourth Studio Album Due Summer 2011

According to the band’s official website, the fourth studio album from Jane’s Addiction is now tentatively due in the summer of 2011.

BAND’S FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM DUE OUT NEXT SUMMER
Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 10:15 AM by eddie

JANE’S ADDICTION–singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, and drummer Stephen Perkins–and producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol) recently added TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek to the creative team.  Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, will be writing and playing bass on the new album.

The band—who wrote the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience–is recording their fourth studio album in Los Angeles, tentatively scheduled for a summer of 2011 release on Capitol Records.

“Dave, Steve and I are fully immersed in the process of making modern music,” says Perry Farrell.  “It has been a great experience thus far, and the results have so much potential.”

“This process has been both inspiring and incredibly freeing,” says Dave Navarro. “The events over the last year have proven themselves to be a necessary part of the journey as they have led us to our current creative team and direction.”

NME: Dave Sitek joins Jane’s Addiction for new album

NME is reporting that Dave Sitek is playing bass on Jane’s Addiction’s upcoming new album:

TV On The Radio man replaces Duff McKagan on four-string duties

January 4, 2011

TV On The Radio mainman and producer Dave Sitek is to help write and play bass on ‘s new album.

Sitek replaces former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, the band confirmed to Spinner. McKagan had been due to play on the follow up to 2003’s ‘Strays’. He left during the early stages of recording, citing “creative differences”.

It seems unlikely that Sitek will tour with the band, however. When Jane’s Addiction played a New Year’s Eve show in Aspen, Colorado, Chris Chaney, a former full-time member of the band, played bass.

Aside from the revolving doors of potential bass players, little is known about the forthcoming Jane’s Addiction album. The only comment about the record from frontman Perry Farrell has been to say that he and his bandmates are “fully immersed in the process of making modern music. It has been a great experience thus far, and the results have so much potential”.

Muse and Glasvegas producer Rich Costey has been confirmed to produce the album.

Sitek has produced albums for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars and most recently Holly Miranda. He is also a founding member of TV On The Radio, and released his own solo album under the Maximum Balloon name last September.

Jane’s Addiction in Aspen for NYE

Jane’s Addiction will be playing two nights at Belly Up Aspen this December 30th and 31st.  No word on who will join them on bass.  Jane’s Addiction played the same venue last year on New Year’s Eve which was their first concert with Chris Chaney on bass since 2003, and the only 2009 show without Eric Avery on bass.  If we get word on who will be on bass, we’ll let you know.  Perhaps we will find out next week when Jane’s plays the Tony Hawk’s Stand Up For Skate Parks event in Beverly Hills.

Another New Bassist Already Lined Up?

As we reported yesterday, Duff McKagan has left Jane’s Addiction.  Duff spent the last month recording a new album with his band Loaded, and maybe the rest of the guys knew what was coming.  Today Perry posted the following on his Facebook page:

I met with an inspiring fellow tonight. Someone whom I admire for his creativity, and off beat genius. We listened to passionate music together. I found myself aroused… I can’t tell you who he is. He recommended we listen to Henrik Gorecki The 3rd symphony w/ Dawn Upshaw singing. It overcame me…

Does the band already have someone in mind to fill this important vacancy in the band?  It sounds like it:

I love Rich Costey. We are about to add a new collaborator to our team that I met with tonight. This person is a genius, and an innovator. I will tell more in 10 days time…

Duff McKagan Leaves Jane’s Addiction

Duff McKagan, who joined Jane’s Addiction six months ago, has left the band apparently to focus on his band Loaded. Yesterday, Perry posted the following on Twitter:

Jane’s wishes Duff much luck with his band Loaded. What a fun time we all had working together. Look out for his record and tour this fall.

The following is from NME:

Duff McKagan has left Jane’s Addiction after spending six months as part of the band.

The departure of the bassist, who was in Guns N’ Roses from 1985 to 1998, was announced via an email from the band to fans, reports ABC News.

“We wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record,” the band wrote. “We love the songs we worked on with him – and the gigs were a blast – but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him gabapentin all the best.”

McKagan had worked on Jane’s Addiction’s forthcoming new album, which will be their first in seven years, and had played some shows with them.

McKagan joined the set-up when he replaced Eric Avery, who left Jane’s Addiction last March.
