There have been tweets and facebook posting keeping us up to date on the writing process since Jane’s Addiction began work on new material earlier this year. Dave mentioned on his Dark Matter show last night that the band were in the studio yesterday working on pre-production and that no tape rolled. Today however Dave tweeted the following:

This Saturday May 22, 2010, at 9pm, Dave Navarro will be hosting the grand opening event for the Black Door Bar & Grill in Las Vegas, NV. Dave will be hosting the event which is featuring “Otherwise” and DJ Brittaney Starr.
Dave is co-owner of the Black Door Bar & Grill, along with Nico Santucci, who owns and operates a number of additional clubs and restaurants. The Black Door is located across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. So if you are in the area this weekend, you might want to check it out.

Mike and I were introduced to the guy who runs The Bardot, a nice guy who gets us some free drinks. He mentions that he wants to help get the hardcore Jane’s fans into the VIP section right up by the stage and mentions the possibility of us getting to pull a few fans that we know into the VIP section. Unfortunately that didn’t pan out, and I am guessing it was in the end due to the VIP section being pretty full with the regular guests. We’d really hoped to get Barton in there with us, as he is pretty much as old school of a Jane’s fan as you can get. He was still able to secure a spot right up by Duff. This is part 1 in a 4 part article series about our trip out to L.A. to see Jane’s Addiction. We’re posting one part per day over the next four days.
How do two guys who live near the Great Lakes get out to Los Angeles to see Jane’s Addiction? By going to North Carolina of course! Well, that’s at least what Mike and I did. We met up at the airport in Charlotte, NC for our flight to LAX. Thanks to a little bit of seat switching, Mike and I were able to sit together. We were both groggy from lack of sleep, but we were excited at what the day would bring. We had five and a half hours to talk Jane’s and make our plans for our two-day adventure in L.A. Of course not all our plans would work out, but neither of us is complaining. This was the start of an amazing journey.

Rolling Stone has a new article up discussing Duff McKagan joining Jane’s Addiction. Duff talks briefly about how he came to end up in Jane’s Addiction, the songwriting process, and the future of his old band Velvet Revolver. You can check out the whole article after the jump.
Today in his blog in the Seattle Weekly, Duff McKagan briefly talks about the supposed Jane’s Addiction / Guns N’ Roses rivalry, and a few songs from Jane’s back catalog. The two band’s history is a long one, coming up at the same time in different parts of the L.A. club scene. Dave Navarro even recently talked about being asked to join GNR back in late 1991, and then worked with the band for their song Oh My God! Dave Navarro has posted five Q/A responses over at his website 6767.com. Two of the things he addressed was the opportunity he had to join Guns ‘N Roses back after Jane’s Addiction broke up, the common question about renaming the band now that Eric Avery has re-departed, and him doing another solo album.

Tonight on his Dark Matter show Dave Navarro confirmed what’s been the worst kept secret. Duff McKagan is now a member of Jane’s Addiction. Duff is taking over on bass for the recently departed Eric Avery.
I know it’s not news but I’d like to welcome Duff to the fold. I wish him every success as he and the band continue to work on new music. I’d also like to take a moment to wish Eric the best. I know there are fans out there that are bummed about Eric leaving but as I told Dave on his show I’m an optimist. The way things worked out we not only have new Jane’s music to look forward to but I imagine Eric will be putting out some new music as well.

Last night at Perry Farrell’s fifty-first Birthday celebration a re-tooled Jane’s Addiction took the stage with bassist Duff McKagan. The show at Les Deux marks the first public performance by the band since Duff entered the fray.
I’m uncertain of the set or set time but the band definitely played a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. Dave Navarro wanting the proper tone I presume, can be seen playing a Les Paul in the following photos.

I was told last week by Perry that writing and work would be in full effect starting this week. Today both Perry and Dave made it official via Twitter. Jane’s Addiction have begun work on a new album.

Today the first day of writing for Jane’s. We are meeting up in the city weekdays. Today’s my first drive. I love LA, but it’s roads agony.
